Cameron Suey Talks Horror, Baba Yaga, and ‘Tomb Raider’

The Tomb Raider video game series has always drawn its inspiration from real-world archaeology and mythology as well as classic works of literature and cinema. In the well-received Rise of the Tomb Raider DLC, Baba Yaga: Temple of the Witch, gamers were invited to explore the Wicked Vale, a nightmarish landscape said to be home to a mythical witch. I asked Cameron Suey, the writer and narrative designer for Baba Yaga, about his work on the DLC, his thoughts on the use of horror elements in the ... [Continue Reading]

In June 2015, Crystal Dynamics and Xbox invited a group of Tomb Raider fan site admins to represent the TR fanbase at E3. During their stay in Los Angeles, the ambassadors were treated to some press-only demo footage (i.e. the Syria demo mentioned elsewhere on this site) and got the chance to interview some of the Rise of the Tomb Raider development team to learn more about the upcoming game. Now that the E3 dust has settled, let’s see what the ambassadors have to say about this ... [Continue Reading]

The Archaeology of Tomb Raider 2nd Anniversary Q&A

It’s hard to believe that it’s been two years since I launched The Archaeology of Tomb Raider. Pillagers of the Past and an Interview with Author Jordan Jacobs

For decades, Hollywood and other entertainment outlets have depicted archaeologists as globe-trotting treasure hunters with a thirst for adventure, a taste for shiny trinkets, and a flagrant disregard for the integrity and safety of the ancient sites they’re trespassing on. Lost cities are a staple plot point of your average archaeological adventure and encounters with the mystical and/or paranormal are almost a certainty. Despite the best efforts of professional archaeologists and ... [Continue Reading]
