‘Blood Ties’ Croft Manor DLC Makes Debut at Gamescom 2016

Preview of the upcoming 'Blood Ties' DLC for 'Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration'

Crystal Dynamics treated Tomb Raider fans to their first look at the upcoming ‘Blood Ties’ DLC at Gamescom 2016, which was held in Cologne, Germany, earlier this week.

This highly-anticipated story-driven DLC, which will allow gamers to explore a dust-ridden, run-down Croft Manor in search for clues that will legitimize Lara’s claim to the Croft estate, was first announced back in July. This week, Crystal Dynamics released a selection of screenshots over on the official Tomb Raider blog and some lucky convention-goers even got the chance to try out the new DLC for themselves.

David Houghton of Gamesradar+ describes it as “as educational walking tour of Croft lore and history”, a “fun and enlightening adventure” that “seamlessly blends puzzles and exploration with storytelling”, while Sam Loveridge (Digital Spy) reports that “there are plenty of nods to the old Tomb Raider rendition of the manor” and that it is “a fantastic salute to the history of Lara Croft and the franchise”.

A preview of the Croft Manor DLC can be found in the video below. The footage may contain some minor spoilers so watch it at your own discretion.

A replayable game mode, ‘Lara’s Nightmare’, will be released alongside the ‘Blood Ties’ DLC and will task gamers with defending Croft Manor against a zombie invasion.

Furthermore, Playstation 4 owners will have the option to explore the manor in first person via Playstation VR as from October 13th, 2016.

Please note that VR support will be exclusive to the PS4 and will be limited to the ‘Blood Ties’ DLC. Anyone hoping to play the full game (or other DLC) in first person will be sorely disappointed.

‘Blood Ties’ and its companion DLC, ‘Lara’s Nightmare’, will be bundled with the Playstation 4 release of Rise of the Tomb Raider and will also be available as a free upgrade for existing season pass holders on Xbox One and PC.

Those without a season pass will have the option to purchase ‘Blood Ties’ and ‘Lara’s Nightmare’ as standalone DLC as from October 11th. Full details of upcoming DLC content can be found here.
