15 Things to Look Forward to in 2015

As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, 2014 was a fairly epic year for Tomb Raider fans and I have no doubt that 2015 will try its best to top the successes of the past year. As a fan community, what should we get excited about and what can we expect to see in 2015?

Well, here are 15 things we Tomb Raider fans can look forward to next year:

1) The Rise of the Tomb Raider This one’s a no-brainer. The highly anticipated sequel to 2013’s reboot will be coming to the Xbox One and Xbox 360 in December 2015 (an official release date has yet to be confirmed) and, if the release trailer is anything to go by, it promises to be an action-packed and graphically stunning game. Very few details about the game’s plot or setting have been revealed thus far but there’s no doubt we’ll be hearing a lot more throughout the coming year.

2) The Console Wars Strike Back! – Constant reminders of Microsoft and Crystal Dynamic’s timed exclusive deal will spark endless debates about the pros and cons of console exclusives and launch yet another round of Console Wars. I can guarantee it…

3) Rhianna Pratchett’s New Comic Story Arc – In February 2015, Dark Horse Comics will kick off a new Tomb Raider story arc which will likely tie into the events of Rise of the Tomb Raider. Billed as a “great starting point for new readers”, this story arc will be penned by Tomb Raider 2013 writer Rhianna Pratchett, who also co-wrote Tomb Raider #7 – #12 with veteran comic writer Gail Simone. You can pre-order the first two installments, Tomb Raider #13 and Tomb Raider #14, over at TFAW.Com.

4) Tomb Raider 2 Lara Skin for the Temple of Osiris Some gamers have already had a sneak peek at the upcoming Tomb Raider 2 Classic Lara skin that will be released as part of an upcoming DLC pack for Temple of Osiris. It’s reported that the skin was prematurely made available to Xbox One gamers but has since been pulled and will be available to season pass owners in early 2015. I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to play as my all-time favourite Lara again… 🙂

5) A New Fan-Made Tomb Raider Mini Series – If you’re thirsty for new fan films, you’ll be happy to know that a new fan-made mini series is currently in the works. The series, which has Crystal Dynamics’ blessing, will be produced by Stephen Lunsford and will serve as an unofficial prequel to the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider. Little is known about the project at this stage so stay tuned for more information!

6) A Possible iOS Release for Tomb Raider 3 – This one is just a guess but since iOS versions of Tomb Raider 1 and Tomb Raider 2 were released in December 2013 and 2014 respectively, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to think an iOS version of Tomb Raider 3 is on the cards for December 2015. This is pure speculation on my part so please take it with a pinch of salt. 😉

7) The 15th Anniversary of Tomb Raider Chronicles – November 2015 will mark the 15th anniversary of the release of Tomb Raider Chronicles. While it’s my least favourite Tomb Raider game, I plan to work on a few Chronicles-related articles to commemorate the occasion. Hard to believe it’s been 15 years…

8) The 15th Anniversary of the Tomb Raider Level Editor – The Tomb Raider Level Editor will also be celebrating its 15th birthday in 2015. This amazing tool, which was released alongside Tomb Raider Chronicles, has allowed fans to create and share their own levels and was recently highlighted in a Rock, Paper, Shotgun article. What better way to celebrate this milestone than downloading some custom levels?

9) Stella’s Temple of Osiris Walkthrough – For those of you who are struggling to get through Lara Croft & the Temple of Osiris, Stella will no doubt be there to give you a helping hand. Her Temple of Osiris walkthrough is currently being worked on but will be completed and updated regularly over the next few months. Be sure to bookmark this link for future reference!

10) E3 2015 – *The* biggest gaming event of the year. While a new Tomb Raider or Lara Croft game is unlikely to be announced at this year’s event, there’s a chance we’ll finally be treated to some Rise of Tomb Raider demo gameplay. The game is due to be released at the end of the year, after all…

11) GameBlast 2015 – The first of 2015’s major charity gaming events, GameBlast 2015 will take place on the weekend of 20th to 22nd February 2015 and will raise money for the UK-based charity, SpecialEffectTomb Raider fan Steven Ferris (known to many as Rident) is one of the gamers who will be taking part in this year’s event. You can learn more about his fundraising efforts over on his blog.

12) Extra Life 2015 – The other major charity gaming event (and one you’ll have heard me talk about at great length on this blog) is Extra Life 2015, a charity gaming marathon which raises money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the USA and Canada. Team Tomb Raider Community raised an amazing $3,379 during Extra Life 2014 and we hope to top this in 2015. Keep your eyes open for more information about 2015’s fundraising efforts later in the year.

13) More Official Announcements – Consider this a catch-all category for anything we don’t already know about. Crystal Dynamics may very well have other things up their collective sleeves that they haven’t made public so who knows what 2015 will bring. Perhaps we’ll be treated to another Tomb Raider novel or find out that we’ll be getting a new Lara Croft game in the not-too-distant future. Maybe there’s a new Tomb Raider film in the works. Or an animated series. The possibilities are endless… 😉

14) More Amazing Fan Creations – There’s no shortage of talented, creative Tomb Raider fans so there’s no doubt we’ll be seeing even more of their incredible fan art, fan fiction, and cosplay photoshoots in 2015. Feel free to follow me on Twitter, deviantArt, or Facebook to discover new fan creations on an almost daily basis.

15) More Archaeology of Tomb Raider – I don’t want to brag but I hope you’ll be seeing plenty more from me in 2015. There are loads of new articles on the way within the next 12 months, including new editions of my popular Arte-Factual and Lara’s Travels features, comic reviews, fan interviews, and an article on another fictional female archaeologist. The best is yet to come, my friends…so please stick around. 😉

  1. I think the Archaelogy of TR needs to focus on the Youtube channel. I want some more Tomb Raider Twitching, Miss Kelly from the Block! 😉

  2. It is going to be a banner year for Tomb Raider, though not without some conflict and turmoil, I’m sure. Thanks so much for mentioning my Temple of Osiris walkthrough. I’ve been quiet on social media lately but only because I’m spending nearly every free minute with this game. I still have a lot to do, but it certainly is a fun project!

I hope you had a lovely holiday season. Here’s to more good times and good works in 2015! 😀
