In the Spotlight: Sandra F

Sandra F from ParaguaySo, tell us a little about yourself.

I’m 28 years old and I’m a social sciences teacher and lawyer from Paraguay.

When and how did you learn about the Tomb Raider series?

I guess it was when I was about 13 years old. I played it at my cousin’s house because he was the only one who had a Playstation in my neighbourhood at that time.

Do you run a Tomb Raider fansite or blog? If so, what would you say was your biggest achievement to date?

Yes, I, or should I say *we*, have a Facebook fanpage, Tomb Raider Paraguay, and I guess our biggest achievement was making Lara and her game series better known amongst gamers in my home country.

How has Tomb Raider changed your life?

Wow, where I should start? 🙂 I think when I first saw her I just wanted to be like her: strong, boundless, intelligent, smart. In that moment, I developed some kind of passion and love with history and human behaviour. And, well, here I am today, a social science teacher and a lawyer. The only thing I haven’t done yet is travel around the world. 😉

Were you interested in archaeology before discovering Tomb Raider? Have the Tomb Raider games and films inspired you to learn more about ancient history?

I was always a little interested in these subjects but when I came across her, we can say that she was like a trigger that got me more interested in all those things.

What are your thoughts on Lara’s image? Is she simply the product of a sexist gaming industry or can she be seen as a positive role model?

Maybe when the game was first in development stage it was sexist, but I guess they couldn’t know the impact she was about to make in the video game world. Today we see her as more than simply a sex symbol: we see her as a strong woman, brave, bold and intelligent. I mean, wow! The type of girl you would like to meet in every corner or at least once in your lifetime.

What’s your favourite Tomb Raider game?

I think it would be Tomb Raider II.

And your least favourite game?

Tomb Raider Chronicles.

Classic, Legend-Anniversary-Underworld or Reboot Lara?

Why not all of them?! 🙂

Do you have any favourite Tomb Raider moments or quotes?

Yes. From the reboot, what Mathias said: “There are no heroes. Only survivors.”

What about least favourite moments? Is there anything you dislike about the games/films/comics?

Maybe the second film. It looked like Lara wasn’t badass enough, at least not like in the first film.

If you could change one thing about the Tomb Raider franchise, what would you change?

One thing that I liked a lot were the interactions between Lara and her friends/partners in TR: Legend. You know, talking all the time, joking and making funny comments. It was like you weren’t traveling alone around the world and I think that was amazing. I would love to see something like that again in future games.

Which places would you like to see Lara explore in future games?

Pacific Islands. Boy, those places needs some of Lara’s sexiness. 😉 And, oh yes, South America too.

Finally, if you could join Lara on one of her adventures, where would you go?

Definitely, India
