I hope the sight of these creepy critters hasn’t scared you away. Have a happy Halloween (if you celebrate it) and enjoy your trick or treating! If you’re planning to dress up as Lara Croft or any of the other characters from the Tomb Raider games, feel free to let me know! I’d be happy to share your photos on the blog and/or social media. 🙂

** Actually, there’s now a third list, The 10 Scariest Tomb Raider Enemies: The Best of the Rest, if you’re looking for more creepy nostalgic goodness. Sharks, spiders, statues…and a familiar face.

So, do you agree with the ten enemies I’ve chosen? Are there others that should have been on this list instead? Feel free to share your thoughts below!

  1. I guess I gave a fondness for the Doppleho (given I put a Doppleho in one of my fan fics in 1999).

  2. Nice! I thought the centaurs were plenty creepy, especially in the cut scene where Pierre encounters them. The skull heads, the glowy eyes. Shudder! After that, you’re too busy trying to survive to look at them. The tiger thralls make me jump too, though nowhere near as much as the cat mummies in TR1. As a few people said on Twitter, realistic monsters aren’t always the most scary.

    • I really had a lot of trouble compiling this list. The newer games are just too realistic for their own good. Perhaps I should have make 2 Core Design lists as I had to leave out a lot of old school enemies from the 1st list (e.g. Brother Obscura, the guardians from Last Revelation, those awful little creatures from the Ireland levels of Chronicles)

  3. I hate those spiders. With a passion. Ugh, lol. Good article.

    • They’re were pretty ghastly…though not as bad as the ones from Tomb Raider 2. There’s just something inherently creepy about the low-tech graphics of the 90s. ^_^
